What We Think About Rosies
Rosie’s is an HHR machine “Gaming Center” and a place where you can bet on Horse Races – Historic Horse Racing (HHR) Machines are basically like slot machines and they look like, act like, and function like a slot machine, but they are not a “reel” or real slot machine. Can you win money on the HHR Machines at Rosie’s in Vinton? Sure you can but be prepared to LOOSE money when you put it in a machine no matter where you are.
I visited Rosie’s a few times in Vinton VA and turned $20 in to $150 then the next visit turned that $150 into NEGATIVE $200. I saw people hitting jackpots and having a good time. I saw people buying drinks at the bar and I saw people smoking in the smoking area of Rosie’s. What I didn’t see was a lot of smiles or laughter or friendliness from the staff (for the most part). Security there is very observant and that’s good but the security guys needs to relax a bit this is Vinton VA not Roadhouse with Patrick Swayze or some Bruce Willis movie where russians are going to take over Rosie’s in Vinton. Do your job but try not to look like a ROBONERD COP or Seth Rogen in Observe and Report while doing it. The other floor staff complaints in front of players or guests a lot. One of the GOLDEN shirt wearing machine attendants ( A Young Man In his 20s) was loudly complaining about how they (the Golden Shirts) were expecting tips from winners and players (guests). The employee that ranted about not getting TIPS from players said “no one tips us and the players are cheap – not like this in atlantic city, people there tip”
I found it offensive because I was a non tipper and for reason! I never one anything big or required help from them or saw a smile from them.
The kitchen and food was ok – HUGE burger with price of $9.99 +$2.00 or so for cheese and toppings (worth the price). Beer $4.00 for a bottle – $4-5 for a mix drink on average.

Along with viewing the animated horse race, HHR players have the option of watching “graphic representations of those outcomes as you would on a traditional casino game.” The “graphic representations” are spinning reels that closely resemble traditional slot machines.
It’s why not everyone is in favor of HHR.

I was upset today June 21 why because I was told no backpacks allowed this was after I was getting ready to leave. security a man was at the door was nice did not comment on backpack..there is nothing about backpacks being for idden. The reason I do it ..its my personal papers due to a man had a Key to my door. so I carry it with me.
Sorry to hear that – wonder if they have it posted on the door there at Rosies in Vinton? If not they should. Also pocketbooks are allowed so why not a backpack???? I see many women with a purse in there…. (The 4 times I have been). I think the security “team” are a little too wannabe tactical and maybe on a power trip (MY OPINION).
The downfall of Vinton – These places are bad for the local economy and tear families apart by causing financial strain due to loss of money. The machines should not be legal in VA because they are not HHR machines on the front end and no one can even EASILY access the skill feature. The machines act as slot machines but have way worse odds of winning… Rosies in Vinton will increase crime and divorce rates. – Also attracts a certain group or 2 of people that would normally not come to vinton and their has already been an increase in thefts in the area. This is bad for Vinton… Lets just throw a strip club and whore house inside there and call it a day… Vinton is turning in to the depths of SE
My husband and I have been to Rosies’s in Vinton several times, I have won a little but my husband has won $455 of the $10 comp and about $700 off of $20. Gambling is gambling and you don’t expect to win every time you go. It is also a personal choice, some people prefer not to go and that’s just fine. No, you don’t take your bill money and play in hopes of winning. It’s a recreational thing. if I take my $20 or $30 of my hard earned money and play, whether I win or lose i’m coming on back down the road. People need to see things for what they are and stop being so negative.
I find Rosie’s to be a relaxing way to end (or start) a day. I have won and loss but that is the name of the game.. GAMBLING.
I will advise anyone who visits any casino to NOT bring money that is intended for anything else other than gambling. If you are coming to try and break them, don’t come as it will not happen. Only come with money you can afford to play with. Be prepared for the worst and hope for the best.
